People in Greenwood
Tonight my car just died on the overpass coming into Greenwood. I don't have a cell phone (by choice) and so I was a bit scared and freaked out. It was a battery issue so all of my lights went out and only my tail lights stayed on. It would not crank. I want you to know that probably 30 cars passed while I was there and all but 2 of them stopped to ask if they could help. A Mr. McPherson let me use his phone to call my husband. So, he came right on over. Someone else stopped and used their caution lights to serve as mine and then someone else pulled in with battery cables. It is such an honor to be a part of a community where everyone actually takes the time to see how they can help. It is great to see people put their walk with their talk and help others. So, we eventually got the car home and worked on it. I think it will be okay to get to work tomorrow or at least to the auto repair place. I just wanted to say that I love the place I live and hope that the people continue to help each other in times of need. Thank you!

Re: People in Greenwood
Yeah but would they have been so eager to help had you not been a woman or if you were another ethnic group. I'm just sayin. There were two ladies broken down on Eastern Valley, one night after dark, when it was very cold. They said car after car had passed them standing there and not stopped. Like you, all they needed was the use of a cell phone. They were too afraid to go knocking on the doors because they were black and elderly. It's a shame what things have come too.

Broke down
Yes, that is terribly sad that this happened to these to ladies. I think we should all do our very best to help others. It is what we are called to do. If I am by myself, I would not stop for a man out of fear. But, there have been several times that I have gotten a phone number from the person broke down and went and called someone for them since I don't have a cell myself. Me and my husband picked up a man on Lakeshore Parkway one day that was visibly broke down. He was in route to pick up his brother. Admittedly, I was scared, but we went and picked up his brother and took them to the Brother's home in Hoover. Doing good will always come back around.
